Modular, Stackable Wellhead System

Patented product · US 8,485,262 B1

A modular wellhead built from stackable sections rather than a single fixed assembly, so the configuration can be adapted to conditions found in the field — including damaged-well recovery and diver-assisted work.

Modular Stackable Wellhead System

When the well does not match the equipment, change the equipment.

US 8,485,262 B1 · Machine Tech Services · Broussard, LA

The Problem

A conventional wellhead is essentially one fixed configuration. When a well is damaged, or when the work has to be done by divers in conditions nobody planned for, a fixed assembly forces the crew to adapt to the equipment instead of the other way around.

How It Works

  1. 01

The wellhead is built from discrete modules that stack, so height and configuration are assembled to suit the well rather than fixed at the factory.

  2. 02

Sections interface with each other through a common connection scheme, which is what makes the stack reconfigurable in the field.

  3. 03

The architecture supports recovery scenarios where the existing wellhead is damaged and a conventional replacement cannot simply be landed.

Why It Matters

  • Adapts to what the crew actually finds, rather than requiring the well to match the equipment
  • Directly supports damaged-well recovery and diver-assisted operations
  • Manufactured in-house from the same shop that designed it
