- The problem
- Hurricane-damaged offshore wells had to be brought back under control. The equipment on the well was wrecked, and a conventional wellhead is essentially one fixed configuration — so the crew had to adapt to the hardware instead of the other way around.
- What it was costing
- By Billy Angers’s account, regaining control by the methods then in use could take one to two weeks.
- What Machine Tech did
- Working with partners in the industry, Billy Angers designed a different approach: a wellhead built from sections that stack and reconfigure in the field, so it could be assembled to suit the well the crew actually found — including work done by divers. Machine Tech designed the equipment and built it. The system was patented.
- The result
- Under the conditions it was built for, work that had taken up to two weeks could be done in roughly a day.
A modular wellhead built from stackable sections rather than a single fixed assembly, so the configuration can be adapted to conditions found in the field — including damaged-well recovery and diver-assisted work.

Machine Tech was founded in November 1992 by Billy Angers, a machinist with more than 40 years at the trade. The company has spent 33 years being the shop the oilfield calls when the answer does not exist yet — wellhead equipment, downhole tools, well-control and recovery systems, and the emergency work nobody planned for.

Thirty years of parts that were not allowed to fail.
Pressure-containing components. Wellhead and completion equipment. Parts that go subsea, offshore and into the ground, where a failure is not a warranty claim — it is a well, a vessel or a person. That work sets the habits: material traceability, inspection before it ships, and a machinist who understands what the part is for.
It is also why the same shop is worth calling for work that has nothing to do with oil and gas. The standard came from the consequence, not from the industry.

A modular wellhead built from stackable sections rather than a single fixed assembly, so the configuration can be adapted to conditions found in the field — including damaged-well recovery and diver-assisted work.

- Mud Bucket System
An enclosure that surrounds a drill-pipe connection and uses fluid-driven actuators to open and close around it, capturing drilling fluid released when the connection is broken and draining it away.

A grinder built around a horizontal shaft carrying multiple rotors that reduces rock and drilling cuttings. This invention is the technical lineage behind the cuttings-remediation equipment Machine Tech builds today.

A hanger system that allows cables, lines and conduits to pass through a wellhead while maintaining a seal — which is what makes it possible to hang an ESP without cutting and splicing the power cable.

A family of grants that extends the sealed pass-through concept with interchangeable configurations, so different cables, lines and conduits can pass into a well while containment is maintained.

We do not publish an on-time delivery percentage, because we have not measured one over a long enough period to stand behind it. When we have, it will appear here with the period it covers.
We do not list customers we have not asked. Where a job is described on this site, the customer is anonymised unless they have cleared it.
This section exists because a page called Proof is read by the people who check. Everything above it is verifiable; this is the part most manufacturers leave out.
