Choose CNC Machining when
- More than a handful of identical parts
- Contoured or multi-axis geometry that cannot be produced by hand
- Tight, consistent tolerances across a whole run
- Any part likely to be reordered, because the program is then reusable
Choose Manual Machining when
- A single simple part where programming would take longer than cutting
- Repair work on an existing component, where the part dictates the dimensions
- Modifying or fitting a part while it is in front of you
- Prototype work where the dimensions are still being decided
The verdict
Quantity and complexity push toward CNC; one-offs, repairs and fitting work push toward manual. A shop running both picks per job rather than per philosophy, which is why "do you have CNC" is a less useful question than "what would you run this on, and why".

Is CNC machining always better than manual?

Is CNC machining more accurate than manual machining?
- More consistent, rather than inherently more accurate. A skilled machinist on a good manual machine can hold very tight tolerances on one part. What CNC provides is that same accuracy repeated across every part in the run without depending on attention.
