Line boring machines two or more bores in one pass along a single rotating bar so that they share one true axis.

In practice

A boring bar is supported at both ends and passes through every bore in the assembly, cutting them in sequence. Because they are all cut by the same bar on the same axis, alignment between them is inherent rather than something to be measured back into.

Why it matters

It is the standard repair for worn pivot and bearing bores in heavy equipment and marine gear, where the housing itself cannot be replaced and the alignment between bores is what matters most.
