A traveler is the document that moves with a job through the shop, listing every operation in sequence and recording what was done, by whom and when.
Also called: router · job packet · traveller
In practice
It carries the routing, the drawing revision, material and heat number, inspection requirements and sign-offs. Each operation is signed as it completes.
Why it matters
The traveler is the job's memory. When a part comes back two years later, it is the only record of which revision was built, what material it came from and who set it up.
